COASTAL HAZARDS @ VIRGINIA TECH
Ph.D. Students
About Anmol
I joined the group in 2017. I completed my B.S. from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology. My interests are in coastal disasters and mitigation, with an emphasis on methods to evaluate the risks of tropical cyclones and storm surge. |
About Jun-Whan
I joined this group in 2017. I received my B.S. and M.S. from Hanyang University in Korea. I am currently studying statistical methods and numerical modeling to advance surge and tsunami risk assessment. |
About Catherine
I joined the group in 2018. I completed my B.S. in mathematics from Linfield College, and my M.S. in geology from Central Washington University. My interests are in tsunami modeling and tsunami hazard mitigation. |
About Laura
I joined this group in 2018. I earned a B.S. in Environmental Sciences and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia, where I performed research on coastal hydrodynamics. My current research interests include coastal storm-induced flooding and flood hazard mitigation. |
About Steven
I joined the Coastal Hazards group in 2019 as a Ph.D. student. I earned a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. My research interests include numerical modeling of coastal processes and socioeconomic response to coastal hazards. |
About Jessica
I joined the Coastal Hazards group in the Fall of 2018. In 2015 I received my B.S. in Environmental Geology from the University of Pittsburgh and received my M.S. at Virginia Tech in 2019 studying paleoseismology and tsunami deposits on the north-central coast of Chile. My Ph.D. work includes studying paleoseismology and land-level change using microfossils within coastal marsh environments. |
M.S. Students
About Kristine
I am an MS student researching wave attenuation by living shorelines. I hold a BS in Civil Engineering from George Mason University and a BA in International Relations from William & Mary. I work as a water resources engineer at Wood. |
About Codi
I am an MS student researching modeling of earthquake-induced tsunamis for forecasting. I have a BS is Geoscience (Geophysics focus) from Virginia Tech. and an AS in Engineering from Piedmont Virginia Community College. |
I graduated with my B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in May 2019 and will complete my Master's in May 2020. I have been part of the Coastal Hazards group since 2017. I am currently studying storm surge generated by bypassing hurricanes along the East Coast.
