COASTAL HAZARDS @ VIRGINIA TECH
Jennifer L. Irish, Ph.D. P.E., D.CE, F.ASCE
Jen is professor of coastal engineering at Virginia Tech with over 20 years of experience and more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers. Irish is an expert in storm surge dynamics, coastal hazard assessment, and nature-based infrastructure for coastal hazard mitigation. In 2017, Jen was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Engineers (ASCE), while in 2014 she was invited to join ASCE's Coastal Engineering Research Council. Notable awards Jen has received include ASCE Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering’s Outstanding Paper in 2013 (1 of 5) and the Department of the Army’s Superior Civilian Service Award in 2008. Jen served as Chair of ASCE’s Committee for Technical Advancement and as Secretary of ASCE’s Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute Board of Governors. Jen serves on the editorial boards of Coastal Engineering and the Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering-ASCE.
