Ph.D. Research

Applications for Ph.D. research in coastal hazards will be considered. Students applying to either Civil & Environmental Engineering [1] or Geosciences must have an undergraduate and/or masters degree in engineering, geosciences, the physical sciences, applied mathematics, or related field. To apply:
  1. Pre-application inquiry: Send PDF copies of your CV and transcripts (unofficial acceptable) to Jen Irish (jirish@vt.edu) and Robert Weiss (weiszr@vt.edu).
  2. Application: Select the appropriate button below to apply to either the Geosciences (Weiss advisor) program or the Civil & Environmental Engineering (Irish advisor) program.

[1] Students without an undergraduate or masters degree in engineering who pursue a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering may need to complete additional coursework. Read more here.
